We’ve got a big announcement!

by Florence Welts

Kearney’s premier derby team is getting a whole new look and name for the 2013 season.

Unbeknownst to us, a derby league out of Canada had a very similar name to Tri City Rolling Thunder and the similarities were causing some confusion this season when scores were being posted under the wrong teams. To avoid any future conflict and to be good derby sisters, we decided to change our name to the Platte Valley Roller Vixens.

Effective Sept. 22, we’ll be rolling out a new logo and social media under the PVRV name. Don’t get lost in the transition – make sure to like our new Facebook page, follow us at @RollerVixens on Twitter or bookmark our new URL www.pvrv.org.

We’ll also be launching new team colors and uniforms for the 2013 season… once we get them picked out, of course!

We hope you’ll stick with us during this time of transition and see you at our first home bout in January!

Just so you know it is still really close to the Rideau valley vixens who are a wftda team from Ottawa.

I think there’s probably a lot less risk for confusion with Rideau Valley Roller Girls. The biggest problem previously was that both leagues used “Tri-City” with “Thunder” in team names. As long there’s not another “Platte Valley” league (which there doesn’t appear to be) the descriptors like dames, rollergirls, vixens, etc. will always be common in derby.

But still, good to know! Thanks for that :)

Also a side note. Rideau valley vixens use a fox in our logo.
Our colours are brown and gold.

Thank you so much for your feedback, we will take into consideration your comments when determining our final new logo, the one posted is one of several different ideas that we are working on. I have spoken with WFTDA regarding name similarities and how to address this, we understand where things are with this, both in relation to legalities & WFTDA rules & expectations (we currently are not a WFTDA league, but would like to become one in the future, we are currently USARS). We are working diligently to ensure that we do not have logos or the combo of league & team names which are so similar to that of another league and team combo that it creates copyright or stats recording with the appropriate governing entity (as it did with the Tri City team). I don’t believe team colors will be an issue, we have discussed several options & brown & gold has not been considered at all. Thanks!
