Formal Announcement of Dissolution
We are sad to announce the formal dissolution of the Platte Valley Roller Vixens, Central Nebraska’s premier women’s roller derby league.
The decision to dissolve the organization was approved by a vote of existing league membership and the board of directors due to a combination of dwindling recruitment interest, lack of resources for practice space, and a growing number of transfers and retirements as members moved on to new chapters of their lives.
Platte Valley Roller Vixens, Inc. was founded in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to advancing the sport of roller derby, and fostering empowerment of adult women by providing opportunities to participate in a competitive amateur sport. Members have always been committed to being positive role models through displays of athleticism, good sportsmanship, and forming strong community ties through volunteerism and service.
As part of the liquidation of our assets, we have made the following donations in support of that mission:
$2300.00 – Omaha Junior Roller Derby, to assist continued development for the future of our sport.
$1000.00 – G.I. Crisis Center, which provides 24-hour confidential services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
$1000.00 – Central Community College Student Veterans Association, an organization dedicated to the pride, visibility and success of veterans who often volunteered their service at our events.
Additionally, three $200 alumni scholarships were created to contribute to teams former PVRV skaters are now competing with Flatrock Roller Derby, Boulder County Bombers, and Junction City Roller Dolls.
A final donation of Roller Vixen memorabilia including event flyers, programs, jerseys, and merchandise will be made to the National Roller Skating Museum in Lincoln Nebraska.
We thank all of the fans who came to watch our games, our numerous volunteers and sponsors for their support over the years, and all of our former league members for their dedication. It was a privilege to introduce the sport of roller derby to the tri-city area, and we hope to one day see its celebrated return!
